Hello, my name is Steve Griffin. I am the interim principal at Oxford Primary School. I was hired by Oxford in 1980. I taught sixth grade science in the Middle School for twenty-six years. During those years I never said I was going to work. I always said I was going to school.
I was truly blessed with super students and supportive parents. When I started I was surrounded by caring mentors. I am forever grateful for the career in Oxford.
In July of 2006, I became the middle school principal at Unadilla Valley. Again, I was fortunate to have great staff and students with which to work. After only one year I left Unadilla Valley to become director of athletics at Norwich City School District. It gave me a chance to be in the same school as our two children, Cassidy and Colby. I retired from Norwich in 2011.
Since retiring I have filled in for principals at Oxford Academy when they could not be at school. When Ms. Hansen accepted the assistant superintendent position in Norwich I received a call from Mr. Bissetta. He asked if I would fill in as a replacement until a new person was hired and ready to take over the position. I gladly said yes.
The feeling of being blessed returned. Oxford Primary School is filled with caring, hard-working teachers and staff. The students are in a nurturing, safe environment. I was accepted warmly which drives me to work hard to support their efforts. I have met some extremely talented students at every grade level.
Speaking of talented, my wife, Claudia, just retired after teaching music for thirty years at Oxford Academy Middle School. We have been married for over thirty-five years. Again, I have been blessed. Our daughter, Cassidy, is in graduate school at Northeastern. She will soon become a physician's assistant. Our son, Colby, is in a doctorate program at Gannon University. Soon he will have his doctorate in physical therapy. So, now that I'm beginning to feel the wear and tear of an old body, the roles have reversed.. It is time for them to take care of me.
If any parent has questions, concerns or suggestions on how to make Oxford Academy and Central School an even better place for young Blackhawks than it already is don't hesitate to call me or stop in.
