Description:

Three Oxford Academy music students are participating in the highly competitive NYSSMA Area All-State Music Festival on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 in Oneonta. Natalie Barrows (Mixed Chorus), Audrielle Clark (Treble Choir), and Brian Huggins (Concert Band) were chosen from applicants in five counties to rehearse and perform exceptional music with guest conductors. The festival will conclude with a concert starting at 3 pm Saturday in the Hunt Union on the SUNY Oneonta campus.

Student selection for Area All-State performance ensembles are based on teacher recommendation and extremely high solo scores awarded by NYSSMA judges at evaluation festivals held previously. Judges measure skills in tone, intonation, technique, accuracy, interpretation, scales, and sight reading.

Chorus teacher Michael Moren and Band Director Mikaela Brown are commended for the preparation and substantive music education provided to our accomplished student musicians.

The New York School Music Association is the New York affiliate of the National Association for Music Education. NYSSMA comprises fifteen zones across the state, where students may attend evaluation festivals with adjudication that measures six levels of a progressively more challenging repertoire.

The Area All-State Music Festival concert is open to the public. Tickets are $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for students; children 4 and under are free.
