Welcome back for a new and exciting school year. I hope as you read this letter you are enjoying the great weather we are having this summer. The Summer Reading and Math Program is finishing off another tremendously successful year where we have over 140 students participating. Also, over the course of the summer, the faculty and staff have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming school year by participating in various professional development opportunities. I cannot wait to see the new strategies in action to further meet the needs of each and every student in the building.
As we continue to build on the success of the past and look toward the future, I want to update you on a few new details of the upcoming school year. First, I would like to announce the addition of new faculty members: John Huther, Morgan Westbrook, Leslie Tallmadge, Kate Cirello, and Mia Quatrone. Mr. Huther will be teaching third grade, Miss Westbrook will be teaching fourth grade, Miss Tallmadge and Miss Cirello will be teaching first grade, and Miss Quatrone will be teaching music. Also we will be having a STEAM related arts class this year that will be taught by Mr. Kappauf. Secondly, we are proud to announce that again this year breakfast and lunch will be served daily at no cost to the students and their families. This is very exciting and tremendous news for our community. I have attached a form that needs to be filled out and returned to the office so everyone can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Thirdly, as you know our daily schedule will be adjusted this upcoming school year. The school day will continue to start at 7:55am and dismissal will take place at 2:20pm for students riding the school bus, while students that are parent pickups will be dismissed at 2:05pm. An enrichment period will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:30pm to 3:00pm. All students will be given a specific day they will stay for the enrichment period to get specific targeted instruction. You will be receiving information shortly of each students’ homeroom teacher and their designated day for enrichment. Please make sure to fill out all attached forms and return to the Primary School main office by Thursday, August 21st. Lastly, just like in previous years we will be allowing parents/guardians to walk students to their classrooms on the first 4 days of school (September 8th, 9th, 12th, and 13th). Beginning on Wednesday, September 14th, students will proceed to their classrooms with the assistance of faculty and staff.
I also want to announce a few important upcoming events so you have the time to plan for them. The Primary School Meet and Greet will be September 7th from 2pm to 3pm. The first day of classes for students will be September 8th. The Primary School Open House will be October 6th from 6pm to 7pm. Please mark these down on the calendar so you can attend with your child as we look forward to seeing each and every one of you.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
