May 24 and May 28, 2024 will be give back snow days.
There's NO SCHOOL May 24 through and including May 28, 2024.  Students will return to school on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 following the Memorial Day break.

English Language Arts Grade 7

 

By the end of seventh grade, students who are making adequate progress in literacy are able to:

Reading:

7.1            Respond to a task that identifies the purpose for reading and use notes, highlighting or other means to gather information during the reading to respond to the task.

7.2            Recognize themes in a variety of literary and technical works.

7.3            Recognize and interpret plot, characters, theme, and setting using evidence from a variety of literary works

7.4            Recognize and analyze literary techniques and devices such as structure, mood, foreshadowing, simile, metaphor, personification, and imagery in a variety of literary works, with assistance.

7.5             Identify poetic elements such as rhyme, rhythm, meter, imagery, personification, and use them to interpret an understand poetry.

7.6             Recognize the difference between a persuasive essay, an essay, an essay to inform, an essay that entertains, or a narrative written in first or third person.

7.7             Describe plot, conflict, and resolution

Writing:

7.1            Organize and write a 2-3 page comparison essay, using specific supporting details, in response to a given task, using an organizer, a rough draft, revision and editing, and a final draft process, with assistance.

7.2             Organize and write a 2-3 page literary analysis essay, using specific supporting details, about one element in a literary work in response to a given task, using an organizer, a rough draft, revision and editing, and a final draft process, with assistance.

7.3           Organize and write a 2-3 page unified essay, with specific supporting details, in response to a given task about two different pieces of literature, i.e. a short story and a poem, using an organizer, a rough draft, revision and editing, and a final draft process, with assistance.

7.4            Write a creative piece using elements such as plot, dialogue, characterization, setting, theme, and imagery, with assistance.

7.5              Add 10-12 written pieces from the school year to their personal writing portfolio after re-reading, editing, and revising. They will also include a reflection on each piece regarding why it was chosen and what they learned from the piece.

Listening & Speaking:

7.1            Take notes from a piece of literature read to them and utilize their notes to respond to a specific task.

7.2             Learn to hold their thoughts by taking notes or completing an organizer while listening in class.

7.3             Participate in a class or small group discussion as an active listener, using notes to capture ideas or questions.

7.4             Participate in a class or small group discussion successfully, using evidence to support their point.

7.5            Deliver a 2-3 minute oral report or book talk to the class, following the conventions of public speaking such as speak clearly and loudly, use correct posture, use notes or cards for organization, and answer questions form the audience.

7.6            Answer questions posed by the teacher with at least 80% accuracy

7.7       Listen to a passage read by a teacher, take notes, and answer 2 extended response questions
